3 types of designers I am not, and that's okay.

I am not the most skilled designer, and that's okay.

The truth is – I don't need to be the most technical designer in the room to be the most effective one. I don't use grids or obsess over the alignment of each pixel and that's because I care more about the big picture, about whether the branding resonates with your audience. Furthermore, running a design studio requires interpersonal, project management skills and the like – more than just technical know-how.

I am not outgoing and extroverted, and that's okay.

"People work with people" – many designers speak directly to their audience through videos, and share snippets of their life throughout the day in an effort to connect with them. I've felt immense pressure to do the same, thinking that it was the only way to get clients. That could not be further from the truth. Share photos, stories, or your playlists – there are many ways to engage with your audience. I do so with words.

I am not the designer with a home advantage, and that's okay.

The majority of my clientele are located halfway across the globe and I have lost opportunities from not being able to collaborate on location. But for every lead lost, there is another who values the perspective I bring coming from a different environment. Ever so frequently, I'll have to schedule calls in the wee hours of the morning due to time difference. While inconvenient at times, my clients can experience first-hand the dedication I bring to their project.
